Certain parts in stop-motion films baffle and amaze me. Well a lot of parts do but certain ones in particular are hardly fathomable and they’re always the tiniest thing. If this was all done frame by frame with puppets then how in the fudge did they manage to create the popping of Courtney’s bubblegum so fluidly? Individual pieces of the process of this gum popping. And it comes out so real in the end.
I remember when Coraline was out and I kept trying to find out how they did the scene where the water pours out of the drain onto her head and then I saw this picture of the pieces they’d used and was so amazed. They could have cheated and just put CG in over, but that’s not for Laika. Laika goes all the way.
